Kaanapali Beach Activities
Kaanapali Beach is a long, 3-mile stretch of sands from Hanakao’o Park (aka Canoe Beach) on the southern end all the way to Kahekili Beach Park on the northern end, with Black Rock about in the center.
The beach south of Black Rock bustles with activity, and you’ll see tourists enjoying every type of water sport imaginable: snorkeling, canoeing, kayaking, surfing, boogie boarding, swimming, parasailing, and more!
The stretch to the north of Black Rock is lined with much newer resorts, and is called Mays Beach.
Mays Beach is much less crowded, and where you should head if you’re looking to sunbathe, relax with a book or take a leisurely stroll.
Snorkel Kaanapali Beach
Ka’anapali Beach, and more specifically the Black Rock area, is one of the best snorkeling spots on Maui, catering to snorkelers of all abilities. Explore the coral reefs around Black Rock to see beautiful tropical fish, Hawaiian green sea turtles and more!
Scuba Dive from Kaanapali Beach
Snorkeling not enough for you? With so much of Maui’s incredible underwater seascape to explore, consider scuba diving tours or from shore! Never tried scuba diving but always wanted to? Introductory lessons are also available.
Surf & Boogie Board
Join the kids for some boogie boarding fun on the gentle summer waves, just large enough to provide thrills! In winter, watch the experienced surfers ride the larger waves, whipped up by the winter winds.
Swimming at Kaanapali Beach
Get your vacation workout swimming laps along the beach, near the shore, when the ocean waters are calm. Or just wade in for a refreshing dip in the warm, turquoise, clear waters at Kaanapali Beach.
Cliff Dive from Black Rock
Enjoy the late evening rituals of the ancient Hawaiians, as they greet the sunset with a traditional ceremony involving the lighting of Polynesian tiki torches, prayer offerings and a spectacular cliff dive off the peak of Black Rock!
Relax on Kaanapali Beach
Sunbathe on the incredibly soft, white sands of Kaanapali Beach. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the 3-mile long beach or the boardwalk. Relax on a hammock with a book. People watch from a deck chair on the beach.
View Wildlife from Kaanapali Beach
From the comfort of the white, soft sands of beautiful Kaanapali Beach, use binoculars to watch spinner dolphins and breaching humpback whales (in winter). Stroll along the beach to spot turtles and monk seals.
Admire Sunsets
Kaanapali Beach is one of the best Maui locations for sunset viewing! Admire as the golden orb gracefully slides into the Pacific Ocean near offshore islands of Lanai and Molokai, accompanied by a vivid colorful sky.
